2013

John Malloy, Bioinformatics & Computational Biology, 2012-13 alumnus of the UBM Program won Honorable Mention for his poster entitled, Norfolk Island Robins are a distinct endangered species: ancient DNA unlocks surprising relationships and phenotypic discordance within the Australo-Pacific Robins.  The poster was presented at the  39th Annual Southeastern Population Ecology & Evolutionary Genetics (SEPEEG) Meeting at the University of Virginia Mountain Lake Biological Station, July 30, 2013.

Stonko-David-smallDavid Stonko, Biological Sciences, 2010-11 alumnus of the UBM Program was named UMBC Researcher of the Week, April 1, 2013.  One quote from the story: “How did you find a mentor and decide on a project? I first met Dr. Peercy when he was my instructor for Linear Algebra in the spring of my freshman year. During this class he introduced me to the extremely interesting work that he was doing in the field of Mathematical Biology. This was around the same time that the UBM program was starting up here at UMBC, so I applied to work with Dr. Peercy and Dr. Starz-Gaiano on a project. It was one of the best decisions that I made here in my time here at UMBC.” Read the full story.

The following three awards were presented at the CNMS Student Recognition Day in May, 2013
